You’re very successful in your endeavor there, that’s exactly what we got. Working with PJ Soles and Tony Todd and Courtney Gains is a pretty big deal. How many times did everybody yell “Outlander” at Courtney Gains on set?

Courtney, when we’re not on set, is really fun to be around. When he’s on set, which I love, he is Sheriff Branford. Courtney, Tony Todd, and Pancho Moler are method actors, which I’m what Pancho refers to as a “method director.” I don’t refer to anybody by their real names. They are people that are in Candy Corn. I don’t know their names outside of character, I only know the characters that they play. They are here because of those characters and that we all love those characters. PJ is a friend of mine now. We’ll talk about whatever and in regular conversation she still throws out, “Totally.” She says it all the time just to be funny. It’s a part of who she is and she embraces it and loves it. They’re amazing.

It’s a little extra special part of Candy Corn that I enjoyed. I really did love Pancho Moler’s Dr. Death too. I want to see more of him, he’s a great character.

I cannot imagine the amount of time and scheduling and all that is going into releasing Candy Corn, but I’m going to ask the questions you’re not supposed to ask: Do you have anything new that you’re working on?

I guess you’re not supposed to ask certain people that, but I’m always 10 steps ahead so I can’t really talk about what’s going on next. I will tell you this: I wrote Candy Corn as a trilogy and I get asked a lot if there’s a sequel. It’s obviously left open for a sequel. I’m not waiting to see if we can make a bunch of money for a sequel. I wrote it as a trilogy, so I have two other scripts. I love these characters. I love this world and, quite frankly, Candy Corn is just scratching the surface on these characters that I ultimately ended up living with for many, many years.

I wanted to create something that was original, but also paid homage to everything that I love about the genre and the season.

I want to revisit that world at some point in the not-so-distant future. I hope the fans continue to embrace Candy Corn. I can’t wait to hear what they like. Like what you said about Dr. Death, I love that we spent so much time creating that character and a lot of the jokes that he makes are just my sense of humor. That’s just me and come to find out that’s Pancho too. When you see the Blu-ray, there’s the two-hour behind-the-scenes documentary and a lot of those lines he would say just literally being a smartass and I would say something back being a smartass and then we thought it was perfect and that’s the line he would say. I love hearing you saying that you love that character because it gets me excited and I think that maybe we can revisit this world and these characters down the road.

That being said, I have a ton of scripts that I’m always working on and ideas. We’re just starting the beginning of the press trail with Candy Corn and we have amazing screenings. Epic Pictures got Candy Corn a theatrical release which is nice, and traveling all over the place doing these Q&As and embracing it all is great.

We finished this thing against all odds and people are enjoying it… hopefully early next year I will start up on on the next film which, unless something crazy happens, I can promise won’t be Candy Corn related, but will hopefully be equally as exciting to those who find Candy Corn exciting… It’s been a long journey and I sincerely appreciate everyone who has stuck with it and supported it. We’re here now, so it’s a great feeling.
