That J.J. Abrams is a sneaky sneaky man.

It was just under a year ago that we learned Paramount Pictures had hired a Director for what was then described as a Nazi-themed Zombie movie called OVERLORD. Details were few, but at least we were told the man behind the camera would be Julius Avery (SON OF A GUN).

Well, while you were sleeping, it was announced that the film is not only finished, it has been sercetly re-worked to be part of the CLOVERFIELD universe, an apocalyptic monster-fueled cosmos that includes the original film, the 2016 claustrophobic thriller 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE and an upcoming feature that may be called GOD PARTICLE or CLOVERFIELD STATION. Rumors are swirling the latter film could land at Netflix.

CLOVERFIELD was not only a huge hit for both Paramount and Abrams’ Bad Robot, it launched the career of Director Matt Reeves who went on to helm LET ME IN, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and last year’s WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES.

The OVERLORD story drops two U.S. Paratroopers behind enemy lines, where they not only have to fight for survival, but learn the Third Reich is experimenting with the supernatural in a sinister plot to win the war.

OVERLORD will star Wyatt Russell from BLACK MIRROR‘s Playtest episode  and Jovan Adepo from FENCES and HBO’s THE LEFTOVERS.

We’ll keep you updated on the Sci-Fi/Horror excitement. For now, enjoy the trailer from the 2008 original film.

From 2017: On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
