What a long, strange trip it’s been for Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel, LEATHERFACE. Filming on the production wrapped quite some time ago, then reshoots were made, then it sat, then it was going to get a big theatrical release, and now it’s going to be hitting VOD platforms and limited theaters on October 20th and available to view early for DirecTV customers on September 21st.

Is this a commentary on the quality of the film itself? Hard to say. After all, Tom Cruise’s The Mummy hit theaters while the hotly anticipated Cult of Chucky is headed straight to VOD; regardless of enthusiasm. What’s certain is that the newly-released images are a stark reminder that this is the duo that brought us the modern French classic, Inside. They’re soaked in blood (and maybe a tad spoilerly), so check them out below.

We plan on having a review for you later this summer, so stay tuned.

A prequel about teenage Leatherface who escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates kidnaps a young nurse and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.
