Where I’m from, you hear a lot about Bigfoot and other strange creatures lurking around the woods when you’re young. I’m not sure if it’s a southern thing or what, but we seem to be oddly fascinated with cryptozoology. The problem is, we’re hurting for a truly great Bigfoot film. Several filmmakers have gotten close in the past, but they often end up disappointing with comedic overtones or less-than-stellar CGI work. It’s a bummer. Is it too much to ask for a truly frightening Squatch flick? I’m not sure, but I do know that writer/director Matt Allen is about to give it a shot.

HOAX tells the story of an investigation into a camping trip gone wrong that turns into a fight for survival when a team, including a brilliant primate specialist and ruthless television producer, must come to grips with the possible existence of Bigfoot. It’s being called “a love letter to monster movies of the past” and is set to wrap principal photography in September.

William Munns will be doing creature design and the legendary Alan Howarth will be doing sound design and musical composition. We don’t have much more at the moment in terms of details, but we were able to snag some still images from the (gorgeous) filming location of Lake City, Colorado. Check those out below, along with the official press release, and let us know what you think! Are you ready to go squatchin’?
