Shudder

What to watch?

This week, our SHUDDER pick comes to us from South Korea.  I SAW THE DEVIL is an absolutely brutal movie.  Fans of Korean cinema (or Psy music videos) will recognize some of the top actors the country has to offer.  Beyond the incredible acting is a story that some could call romantic (some could call it that… like if someone were writing a weekly article about getting together for a date night involving horror movies and booze).  Torture, crushing injuries, and pure human evil come together to make a movie you’ll never forget.  There is definitely going to be some head into shoulder action with I SAW THE DEVIL on the screen, so it may be your ticket to some real good HORROR AND CHILL.

What to drink?

Anytime you go out to a Korean restaurant, you’ll notice two drinks on almost every table: Soju and Beer.  For this film, I am definitely going to recommend beer.  CASS FRESH is one of the most popular beers in South Korea, and is usually available around the world.  Want to make the night extra Korean?  Drop some shots of Soju into a glass of Cass… you might not see the devil, but you’ll have a great time.

What to watch?

There is a certain subset of movies that I like to call, “awesomely bad”.  These are movies that are so insanely ridiculous, so terrible, that they some how become amazing.  PLANET OF THE SHARKS fits that definition like a glove.  Think WATERWORLD but with sharks.  A LOT of sharks.  This movie isn’t going to terrify you, and it isn’t going to make you stay out of the ocean.  What it is going to do is entertain your pants off, which is the goal for HORROR AND CHILL, right?

What to drink?

If you’re going to watch a movie as awesomely bad as PLANET OF THE SHARKS, you’re going to want to get drunk.  The best way to get drunk is to make a cocktail that is not only potent, but tastes nothing like the alcohol in it.  I present to you fine people… THE SHARK ATTACK!

In a pitcher mix all ingredients and stir:

2 cups of ice cubes

1/4 cup lemon slices

1/4 cup pineapple chunks

1/4 cup tequila

1/4 cup triple sec

1/2 cup orange juice

1/4 cup pineapple juice

1/4 cup Bacardi 151 or Everclear

Splash of grenadine

Maraschino cherries

What to watch?

WOULD YOU RATHER is sick, sadistic, demented, and thought provoking.  I’m sure a lot of you have played the drinking game, “would you rather”.  This film is like that, only instead of “kiss bobby smith or pee your pants” it’s “electrocute to death or slice your eyeball with a razor”.  A strong constitution should be a requirement for anyone you ask to come over to HORROR AND CHILL with this film.  Don’t worry though, there will be plenty of good snuggle moments.  If you’re unsure how to get there, here is a pro tip:

Yawn deeply while stretching your arms over your head.  As you finish the yawn, place one arm around the shoulders of your lover to be.  They’ll think you’re smooth as a eunuch’s nether regions.

What to drink?

Would you rather drink a glass of wine, or an entire bottle of scotch?  I’ll let you decide.  Either way you’re having a good time, looking classy as fuck, and getting a good buzz on.  Believe me, that yawn move I described earlier is way better after a couple of drinks.  If you need a recommendation, I’ve always been partial to malbec for wine and TALISKER 10 Year for scotch, but your mileage may vary!

What to watch?

JOHN DIES AT THE END is a weird ass movie based on a weird ass book.  However, it is a weird ass movie based on a weird ass book that got both Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown to sign on.  Did you try to watch KUSO, and it was just way too bat shit for you to handle?  Give this one a try.  It’ll satiate your desire for the insanely weird without the need for drugs.  Alcohol on the other hand…

What to drink?

JOHN DIES AT THE END begins like all good things do… with an axe.  Before I give you the recipe for an “Axe Murderer”, I am going to need you to do a few things:

  1. Make sure your date brings an overnight bag.
  2. Set aside two bottles of water, two motrin and two B-12 pills for each of you.
  3. Cancel all your plans for the next day.

That should do it…here is the recipe:

For each drink, mix in a glass:

1oz rum

1oz tequila

1oz gin

1oz vodka

1oz triple sec

1oz peach schnapps

1oz amaretto

1 splash grenadine

1 splash Sprite or 7-up

Top off with pineapple juice

What to watch?

KILLER PARTY(aka THE SHOWER) is an independent horror movie I just fell in love with.  It is available on all the major VOD platforms or you can pick up a Blu-ray from their website.  Friendships and families are torn apart, faces are stomped, children are hungry and a clown… well, I’ll let you see what the clown does.  This is just a fun movie to watch, and there are a few very touching moments that’ll have you and your beloved holding each other close.  With just the two of you, it might not be much of a KILLER PARTY, but you’re sure to have a killer good time with some killer indie horror.

What to drink?

I spoke to writer/director Alex Drummond for a drink recommendation that’ll really make your night.  He recalls drinking large quantities of TECATE during the many test screenings of his film.  For those unfamiliar, TECATE is a Mexican beer that will go great during these last nights of summer.  Pick up a six pack, snuggle in on the couch, and get your drink on while witnessing a triumph of independent cinema!

Volume 5 is done!  But don’t be sad, we’ll be back next week with more horror, more booze and more opportunities to chill Lionel Richie style (all night long)!  Make sure you let us know on Twitter and Facebook that you’ve been up to some #HorrorAndChill!  Seeya next weekend for more movies, more drinks, and more good times!
