Before Evil Dead and the upcoming Don’t Breathe, Fede Alvarez caught Hollywood’s attention with his short Panic Attack! Which makes it fitting that he’s now attached to an adaptation of  Monsterpocalypse, a kaiju versus giant monster popular board game by Privateer Press.  Alvarez is not only set to direct, but will co-pen the screenplay with long time collaborator Rodo Sayagues.

Dreamworks previously attempted to launch the project with Tim Burton at the helm, but the project was derailed once Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim burst onto the scene.  Currently Warner Bros., DreamWorks and Sony are in a bidding war over this iteration, which we can expect will likely be far different with Alvarez in the driver’s seat.

With the project this early in the planning stages, and having previously been attempted before, it’s too early to predict how the project will unfold.  It’s clear though, that Hollywood is bound and determined to bring us more giant monster action.  To get a idea of what we can expect from Alvarez, however, check out his giant robot invasion short, Panic Attack! below.
