I remember reviewing Game of Death at SXSW roughly 3 years ago. At the time, I praised its lack of character development (yes, really) and its ability to somehow focus, almost exclusively, on violence and chaos. It was a fun and absurd breath of fresh air back then, and I’m beyond excited to see it finally get a formal release after all this time.

For those unfamiliar, Game of Death started as a web series before it was eventually edited into a feature film. I imagine the edit has gone through a couple of changes since I reviewed it, but it didn’t feel like a web series at all when I saw it–and that’s a good thing. If you’re in the mood to turn your brain off for 73 minutes and watch a LOT of heads explode, then look no further than Game of Death. It’s releasing digitally on July 14th from Cleopatra Entertainment. Check out the trailer, below.

Kill or be killed is the golden rule of the Game of Death. Sucks for seven millennials who ignored that rule. Now each one’s head will explode unless they kill someone. Will they turn on each other to survive, or will this sunny day be the last for the innocent people of their middle-of-nowhere town?
