I can appreciate the delicate dance that one has to perform in order to get any real satisfaction out of a mystery/horror show like FROM. That said, the first half of the second season arguably approached a tipping point. Viewers online voiced frustration as the season neared its half way mark–some even threatened to stop watching altogether… for whatever that’s worth.

Having now seen the season 2 finale, I desperately want to chime-in and soothe the beast. Because if the audience knew what was coming, the jaw-dropping revelation that crashes onto your head faster than Jim’s radio tower right before the credits roll, I believe they would have an easier time enjoying the ride. Alas, the community will have to place its trust in the writing team that they have, occasionally, been so critical of.

“I can appreciate the delicate dance that one has to perform in order to get any real satisfaction out of a mystery/horror show like FROM.”

Viewers have been told there is a plan by show runners, actors, and anyone else that is privy to that sort of information, but let me tell you, I think I can see where they’re going. And it’s good. Really good.

Warning: This piece contains major spoilers for the FROM season 2 finale. Continue reading at your own risk.

The final episode ends with Tabitha being pushed out of the lighthouse by the Boy in White only to wake up in a, seemingly, completely ordinary hospital outside of Fromland.

That’s right. Tabitha is out. There is a sequence of events that will allow, at least her, to leave–but what does that mean and how does that set us up for what’s to come?

“This places Tabitha firmly front and center of the narrative going forward.”

Where is Tabitha?

Other than Saint Anthony’s Hospital, we don’t know exactly. That said, we can see some interesting scenery as she looks out the window for the first time. Most notably, there’s a whole lot of forest and water. Specifically, boats sailing and docked at a marina. From a geographical standpoint, I think it’s possible that’s she’s in the same place, but in an alternate dimension and/or time.

The doctor that greets Tabitha states she was found lying next to a trail by a couple of hikers, but I would love to see her return to where they found her and see what landmarks we/she may recognize. Tabitha has been criticized by some as being one of the weaker characters in the show, but this places her firmly front and center of the narrative going forward.

What could this mean for season 3?

I think it would be cool for season 3 to have a balance of narratives occurring both in and out of Fromland. You have people within that are still trying to survive, learn, and escape. You also have those that will undoubtedly be looking for Tabitha and wondering what happened. Not to mention the dozens of other unanswered threads that remain in there.

On the outside, you have the entire side narrative of Tabitha trying to explain what happened and sounding like a lunatic. We saw the harbor. Is she in the same spot just in an alternate dimension? If she wanders around the area, will she find the equivalent of the Bottle Tree in a park or something? Will she try to go back? Will she meet anyone willing to believe or help her?

Where is Victor’s sister?

Victor saw his sister leave after his mother and assumes she died, but I don’t think we ever heard confirmation that he ever saw her body. We know his mother never made it through the Bottle Tree, but his sister may have. And if she made it through the Bottle Tree, then who’s to say the Boy in White didn’t help her escape the same as he did Tabitha? And if Tabitha wakes up in the hospital sounding like a crazy person as she tries to explain herself, I can see a scenario where Tabitha and Victor’s sister find each other as they are, presumably, the only two to ever make it out–and certainly the only people that would believe one another.

“I can see a scenario where Tabitha and Victor’s sister find each other.”

Personally, I cannot wait for viewers to get their eyes on the final episode. FROM is the most creative and enthralling thing on my watch list, and the community participation only makes it better. I love reading the theories and discovering easter eggs thanks to the eagle-eyed maniacs that watch the episodes time and time again to discover new secrets.

Season 2 has been divisive, but I genuinely believe this finale is enough to satisfy the viewer base while setting us up for bigger and better mysteries in the future. I always imagined the series would end once a way to escape was discovered, but now I’m convinced it’s only the beginning. I’m so excited to see where the series goes from here.

MGM+ has something special on its hands.
