We’ve all been there; that moment when you wake up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Maybe you get up to stretch your legs or to grab a glass of water–maybe you check your phone and scroll through your timeline quickly before returning to sleep. Or maybe this brief moment of consciousness is something else… maybe it’s a warning. Sandman takes the fabric of this oh-so-relatable moment in time and fashions it into an insomniac’s worst nightmare. The end result is a short that is both tense and terrifying.

Superfreak Media has been in the game for a while now, but Sandman takes their technical might to a whole new level. Scenes are well sculpted, the color is on point, and most importantly, the antagonist is fucking scary. Even when some less-than-stellar digital FX work creeps its way into the final act, it’s not enough to detract from the successes found earlier.
A simple, yet awesome concept paired with strong technical proficiency makes Sandman worth checking out when it drops on Halloween night. Less is more, and these guys get that. Show some love and hit that “thumbs up” button when the short film releases on October 31st… then you can immediately regret that you’re not wearing a Sandman Halloween costume.
