The Best // Supernatural

It was the last week of September, back in 2007 when my ex showed up with season one of Supernatural. I read the synopsis and told her it sounded dumb; a generic rip-off of The X Files for The WB (now The CW). I have never been so happy to be wrong. We watched the first two seasons just three days before the season three premier, and I haven’t missed an episode since. The show follows two brothers as they hunt everything supernatural. They dive into everything from urban legends to all types of monsters and demigods from religious theology. All of which follows real lore to keep it as accurate as can be.

One of the reasons I consider Supernatural to be the best written television show is the fact that the earlier seasons will mention the tiniest of things, only for them to be explained and become major plot points in later episodes. That’s a perfect of example on how to suck in an audience and allow them to become part of the show. This is also a show that I can watch over and over again and notice new things every time. It’s about to start it’s twelfth season and is the longest running horror show on television, so that has to mean something, right?

Loaded with drama, horror, action, and comedy, Supernatural takes the cake and eats it too. Not to mention an amazing soundtrack that will make any classic rock junkie get a full fledged… well, you know.

The Worst // Preacher

When I first checked out the trailer for Preacher I was more than thrilled. Having known a little bit about the comics, I was intrigued to see what they would do with it. Unfortunately, not only does the show have a less than memorable cast, the story is boring to the point where I forced myself to finish the season in hopes that at any moment there would be something so monumental that it would make me not think I wasted my time—that moment never came.

The entire feel of the show is trashy and reeks of mediocrity at best. I blame myself, because I should have expected this coming from Seth Rogan. The best way to describe Preacher is a horrific train wreck that I, unfortunately, couldn’t take my eyes off of.
