Brits do Ghosts best.

Prolific Welsh writer, Sarah Waters has had another of her novels hit the screen. This time it’s her 2009 gothic tale THE LITTLE STRANGER and it’s attracted one hell of a cast and an Oscar-nominated Director.

Tackling the project is Lenny Abrahamson, who previously directed 2015’s magnificent ROOM, as well as FRANK and ADAM & PAUL. The story concerns a British Doctor called in to care for the shell-shocked son of a secretive mother played by Charlotte Rampling (RED SPARROW, ANGEL HEART). Along with her daughter, the family lives in Hundreds Hall, a decaying mansion, whose walls seem to hide post-war secrets best kept hidden.

Playing the Doctor is none other than General Hux from STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, Domhall Gleeson, who also starred in MOTHER! and EX MACHINA. Joining the General is Ruth Wilson (LOCKE) and Will Poulter (DETROIT).

THE LITTLE STRANGER will be released this fall, with a US release date of August 31st. Until then, button up and prepare for some very proper panics with the trailer below.

THE LITTLE STRANGER tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1947, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants – mother, son and daughter – are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how terrifyingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.
