As if coal mining wasn’t dangerous business on its own, this trailer for The Devil Below is adding some sort of monster to the equation. We only get a glimpse of it here, but I’m already eager to see more of what appears to be a particularly gnarly Graboid-like creature! Some may know director Bradley Parker’s other feature film, Chernobyl Diaries, but he also has a slew of visual effects credits under his belt. We could be in for something very cool.

Monster aside, the lush setting of the Appalachian Mountains against the bleak stone of the mines in this trailer pulled me in right away. The scenes feel really expansive, which is the exact opposite of what I expect to find in a film largely set around mines and caves–or even forests for that matter. I know I’m excited to see this one and find out what is hiding in the dark places, check out the trailer below and let us know if you are too!

The Devil Below will be in select theaters, VOD and digital on March 5th, 2021

There is an abandoned place nestled deep in Appalachian country where underground coal mines have been ablaze for decades. When a team of researchers try to find out how the fires started, they soon discover something more startling than the mystery that sent them there: they’re not alone.
