There are certain names in horror film that should pique everyone’s interest. Two of those names are attached to a new crocodilia creature feature called Crawl where a father and daughter, trapped by a category 5 hurricane, must outsmart and survive a deadly alligator. The two attached names? Sam Rami (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man) and Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Maniac). The first trailer for the movie is out, and boy does it look like a doozy.

plenty of heart-attack inducing moments

Haley Keller, played by Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, The Maze Runner series) heads to her father Dave’s house, played by Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, True Grit), as a category five hurricane approaches. Haley finds her father injured in the basement with the sinister alligator still in the house. The trailer is a highlight reel of anxiety. The storm surge rushes into the house, filling the basement as Haley and Dave remain trapped—and time is running out.

Does the trailer give a little too much away? Yeah, probably. But the contained setting should provide plenty of heart-attack inducing moments as Haley and Dave not only try to survive but escape as well.

Aja directs a script written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. Crawl hits theaters July 12.
