Nearly a decade after ZOMBIELAND made a splash in theaters as an oddball horror-comedy – more emphasis on comedy than horror – the titular movie is finally getting a sequel. Rumors of a sequel have swirled for years after the movie’s release, rumors that are now confirmed to be true. The ZOMBIELAND sequel is finally happening, and it appears the tone will be much like the first – comic mayhem with the four quirky characters making a return, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Actually, the team from the first movie – both behind and in front of the camera – return.

Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin are all set to reprise their roles from the first movie. Original ZOMBIELAND director Ruben Fleischer is also returning behind the camera. Even the original screenwriters, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, return. You may remember those names as the writers of the DEADPOOL franchise. You can spot similarities in the humor. Rounding out the original team is Gavin Polone who returns as producer.

Details on the plot are scarce, but it appears our four heroes will again be traveling across America visiting the White House and the American heartland. The crew will face a new type of zombie that has evolved since the first movie. ZOMBIELAND 2 production begins in January with an October 2019 scheduled.
