In a bit of risky business, Tom Cruise is in talks to star in Universal’s upcoming The Mummy reboot.  Variety reports that the Jack Reacher star is set to launch the return of the iconic Universal Monster movies.  They already have a few good men with Alex Kurtzman(Star Trek) and Chris Morgan(Fast and Furious) developing a shared universe (a la The Avengers) for the classic monsters,  but bringing in Tom Cruise is far and away an excellent decision – as he is definitely grade A, top gun talent.  Universal and Cruise are still in talks, so we can only hope they show him the money and that the firm representing Tom has all the right moves.  As for me, I’m going to grab a cocktail and hope this reboot isn’t mission impossible.

Update:

Variety says it’s in the works – Deadline says it isn’t in the works – I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned.
