AMC’s horror streaming service, Shudder, made an extremely impressive move today with the announcement that they’ve acquired rights for Ringu/Ju-on monster showdown film Sadako vs. Kayako.  Already a smash hit in Japan, the film was just recently announced as part of Toronto International Film Festival Midnight Madness’ lineup.

So you’d think it’d be a long wait before we can watch this epic showdown between major j-horror icons, right?  It turns out, thanks to Shudder, not so much!  After its film festival run throughout the fall season, Sadako vs. Kayako will see a multi-platform release in late 2016, when it will stream exclusively on Shudder.

We’ve already counted the many ways in which we adore this streaming service, including their careful curation of their library.  But this move just opened up a whole new avenue of potential. Bravo, Shudder. Bravo.

After viewing a legendary cursed videotape, Natsumi (Aimi Satsukawa) discovers she has only two days before she will be killed by the demonic entity known as Sadako. The only way to break the curse: pitting the demon Sadako against Kayako, an accursed spirit possessing a haunted house where everyone who enters disappears.
