We’ve been getting drips of information around Dave Franco’s directorial debut for what feels like an eternity. First their was the casting news, then the ominous clip, then a teaser trailer for the actual trailer, and now… the actual trailer. In a way, the final reveal is almost underwhelming. The Rental clearly follows in the footsteps of several other “Airbnb horror” concepts, but Franco’s debut is undoubtedly more polished and packs in all the talent you could hope for in such a small genre film.

The trailer lays out a familiar setup: several friends coming together for some rest and relaxation at a gorgeous rental house that they (probably) found online. All appears to be going well until hidden cameras are discovered and the group plans their escape. What happens next, however, is a bit of a mystery. There’s definitely a masked killer terrorizing the home’s occupants, but it’s unclear if that’s the creepy property owner (nah, too easy) or someone else entirely–maybe even one of their own. One thing is for certain, though. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

The Rental stars Alison Brie (GLOW), Dan Stevens (The Guest) Sheila Vand (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Jeremy Allen White (Shameless). Check out the debut trailer, below, and let us know what you think. The Rental is in select Drive-Ins, theaters and On Demand July 24, 2020.

Note: Special Advance Drive-In Screening and Q&A with Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Sheila Vand and Jeremy Allen White on Thursday, June 18th at 8:30 PM at Vineland Drive-In. You can purchase tickets at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/arclight-at-the-drive-in-tickets-109025865298

Two couples on an oceanside getaway grow suspicious that the host of their seemingly perfect rental house may be spying on them. Before long, what should have been a celebratory weekend trip turns into something far more sinister, as well-kept secrets are exposed and the four old friends come to see each other in a whole new light. Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Jeremy Allen White, and Sheila Vand star in this unnerving and sophisticated debut thriller from Dave Franco (NEIGHBORS, IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK, THE DISASTER ARTIST).
