Horror movies have evolved, and so has women’s involvement in the industry. In fact, February has even been marked as “Women in Horror” month. Earlier this year, XYZ Films released XX, the first anthology horror film directed by all female directors. This movement of putting female horror directors under the radar has seemingly caught the eye of Drew Barrymore, and now her production company, Flower Films, will release their first ever horror anthology series, Black Rose Anthology, where all episodes are written and directed by women.

Barrymore is known mostly for her involvement in romcoms, but she has had some solid affiliations with the horror genre before, starting from Firestarter all the way to the recent Netflix horror comedy, Santa Clarita Diet. And let’s not forget her iconic scene in Wes Craven’s Scream. So this shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. Speaking of Scream, Jill Blotevogel, ex-showrunner of MTV’s Scream is said to direct the pilot episode. According to Deadline Black Rose Anthology “will explore some of humanity’s deepest fears from a woman’s unique perspective.”

Multiple hour-long episodes have been picked up by the CW network. No word on when the show is set to premiere, but we’ll be sure to keep you guys in the loop.
